Rafting tour on Rioni River is fun, adventurous, and extreme experience. As Georgia has numerous mountain rivers it gives a perfect opportunity to experience rafting of different complexities. Rafting on Rioni river in western Georgia is a great tour to enjoy extreme sport and learn cultural legacy of Georgia.
The tour starts in Tbilisi. The first day is about learning the history of the city, visiting the main sights. The second day will be on the road Tbilisi-Kutaisi; along the way you will see ancient monuments of Georgian architecture, learn the culture of the country, and enjoy natural landscapes. The third, the main day of the tour includes a visit to the amazing cave of Prometheus and a long-awaited rafting on the Rioni River. On the fourth day you will have some time to cool down after an intense and active holiday before your flight.
Day 1: Tbilisi – arrival, city tour
Arrive in Tbilisi. Our driver will meet you at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Check-in at noon.
Start a sightseeing tour in Tbilisi. You will see central Rustaveli Avenue, visit Metekhi Church and the monument to Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of Tbilisi. Take cable car to Narikala Fortress to enjoy breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Walk down to the district of Sulphur bath houses passing by the only mosque in Tbilisi. Stroll through the Sharden are full of narrow streets with cozy cafés, wine tasting bars, souvenir shops, and breathe in the living past. Visit Anchiskhati Basilica, and the clock tower of famous Rezo Gabriadze Theatre. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2:Tbilisi – Uplistsikhe – Ubisa – Shrosha – Kutaisi
After breakfast, drive to Uplistsikhe, cross point of many Great Silk Road routes. Explore this cave town dating back to Hellenistic Period and notable for unique combination of various styles of rock-cut cultures and the co-existence of pagan and Christian architecture. Drive to Kutaisi, the central city of Western Georgia once called “Aia”. The road to Kutaisi will take you over Rikoti pass and through the longest tunnel in Georgia (1,722 m). The tunnel is also considered as border between western and eastern parts of the country. On the way make a stop to visit Ubisa Monastery, famous for its well-preserved and colorful frescoes dating from the 9th century. Have another stop at the village Shrosha, where you will have a chance to see the versatility of Georgian pottery: “doqi” – jug, “piala” – bowl, “ketsi”- plate and many more, made from clay that is extracted from the soil in this area. Arrive in Kutaisi, take a walking tour around the city’s main sightseeing places, also visit Bagrati Cathedral (11th century) – one of the best samples of architecture, and is towering over Kutaisi and visible from almost any point of the city. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Kutaisi – Prometheus cave – Rafting – Tbilisi
After breakfast drive to the Prometheus cave, where you will walk in a 1,5 km long tunnel and enjoy breathtaking views of stalactites, stalagmites, petrified waterfalls, underground rivers and lakes along the cave. The underground light system is filled with LED lights of all colours of the rainbow. Arrive back to Kutaisi, prepare for rafting on Rioni river. After couch will instruct participants for half an hour you’ll start rafting of the river. After exciting experience drive back to Tbilisi. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4: Departure
Check-out from hotel till noon. Free time till transfer to the airport.
